Biotechnology is Growing Fast
Wisconsin is one of the leading states for biomedical technology research and start-ups. Leading the biotech research in the Greater Milwaukee area is The Medical College of Wisconsin, which places 2nd in Wisconsin behind world-renowned UW-Madison’s biotechnology research.

  Air
  • General Mitchell International Airport - Milwaukee
    General Mitchell International Airport is Wisconsin's primary terminal for commercial air travel and freight shipments. It is one of the most convenient and accessible airports in the nation. A 10-minute drive from downtown Milwaukee, the modern facility accomodates more than 6 million passengers annually. Sixteen commercial carriers provide nonstop or direct access to 90 cities, including 50 non-stop destinations. In addition, the airport handles more than 197 million pounds of freight and 44 million pounds of mail annually.
     
  • Kenosha Regional Airport
  • O'Hare International - Chicago
    O'Hare International in Chicago is less than two hours away and accommodates all major international destinations averaging over 2,000 flights per day and 72 million passengers per year.
     
  • Timmerman Field - Milwaukee
    Timmerman is primarily for general aviation.
     
  • Waukesha County Airport / Crites Field
    The Airport offers superior fixed based operator services which includes fueling, ramp service, aircraft maintenance, rental vehicles, flight training, aircraft rental, and aircraft charter. The spacious terminal lobby offers business work stations, a flight planning area, a luxurious pilots lounge, and accommodations for business meetings.
     
  • West Bend Municipal Airport
    The West Bend Airport is classified as a general utility-corporate airport which is designed to handle single and twin-engine aircraft as well as corporate jets. West Bend does not have scheduled air carrier services.

  Freight Rail
Wisconsin has 4,500 miles of track and 12 freight railroads handling 94 million tons of cargo. Two major rail lines serve the greater Milwaukee area.
  Passenger Rail
Amtrak provides passenger service to most of the U.S. and Canada. Amtrak also provides daily commuter trains between Greater Milwaukee and Chicago.

  Port
Milwaukee is home to one of the few Great Lakes ports open to navigation year-round. The Port of Milwaukee has become a gateway for world commerce. It currently serves as a strategic shipping and receiving port for international trade for Midwestern states and handles 3 million tons of Cargo per year. Principal inbound commodities include cement, coal, machinery, steel, salt, limestone, asphalt, crushed rock and other miscellaneous cargo.
  Roads and Highways
The interstate system passing through the Greater Milwaukee area is the gateway to all of Wisconsin via Interstates 43 and 94. The location of the Milwaukee-Madison-Chicago Triangle makes for cost effective transportation and an efficient trading center. Less than three hours from end to end, the Greater Milwaukee area is the center of the Chicago-Milwaukee-Madison Triangle and midpoint between Chicago and Madison. Plans are being discussed for a high-speed rail connector for these cities. Greater Milwaukee takes pride in its quality highway system and averages a work commute time of under 30 minutes. There are over 500 trucking carriers serving Greater Milwaukee including interstate freight lines, local cartage lines, heavy-lift haulers, liquid and dry bulk haulers.

The telecommunications network of Greater Milwaukee is highly advanced with continuous significant new investments being made. DSL and broadband technologies are available to all residents, businesses and institutions in area.
