"Stunning icon of renewal" - The Times
"Today it (Milwaukee) has shed its nickname as 'rust-buckle of the rust belt' and restored its bold city centre. It has also built a stunning icon of renewal in Santiago Calatrava’s lakeside art gallery, a great white goose wing seeming to fly out over the lake." -- The Times of London, November 2, 2004

Detroit Free Press: Milwaukee transforming itself into a hip getaway destination

Ellen Creager, travel writer for the Detroit Free Press provided every Milwaukee evangelist with a number of terrific adjectives and quotes about the new Milwaukee in a story that appeared on Sunday, July 30, 2006. Here are just a few of her quotes:

"Milwaukee is suddenly a magnet for twentysomethings looking for fun."

"Milwaukee is fast transforming itself from stolid German Midwest backwater to a hip city."

"The arts are what makes Milwaukee different from another medium-sized city."

When describing the Milwaukee Art Museum, the writer states "don't be surprised to feel a tear well up at the incredible beauty of this manmade structure and its harmony with the lake just beyond."

After writing about her experience at the Pabst Mansion, Ms. Creager concluded her story by stating, "The mansion is grand but warm, large but human scale, artistic but accessible. Kind of like the city of Milwaukee itself."

Besides the writer’s own quotes, one standout remark at the opening of the story was from a recent MBA graduate from Michigan State, "I would move to Milwaukee in a heartbeat."
